Daddy-Daughter Date Night

Ask Avery, and she will tell you that Chick-fil-a is her very favorite restaurant. So, when Todd found out they were hosting a Daddy-Daughter Date Night, he made the reservation. Of course, Avery had a blast, and seeing her other friends there with their daddies just made it better. (Can you tell we live in a small town?)

A new dress makes any event feel more special, in my opinion anyway. I make clothes for the joy of it and fully expect them to be well worn, loved, stained, whatever. I certainly wouldn’t want Avery to feel confined when wearing the clothes I make or she won’t want to wear them. I did have a moment of concern though when Todd sent me a picture from the dinner with a huge red cherry stain down the front of the white collar/bow. Funny thing is that all the soaking and washing got the cherry juice out fine, but the blue ended up bleeding onto the collar in a few spots. Good thing there is always more fabric out there to buy!!

Vision Accomplished – Bow Collar

Pinterest is really fueling my creativity in sewing. I could, and probably do, spend hours just soaking up the inspiration. Take this collar for instance. Don’t you just love that feminine detail? Well, I had to try to recreate it.

I used my trusty New Look 6845 pattern to begin with. Starting with this idea for drafting a collar, I made up on my own pattern pieces. I learned a lot, and I would do some things different next time. If I do sew this up again, I’ll put together a full tutorial.

I thought the contrast of the geometric print by Sis Boom fabric(Poodle Collection) and the feminine white bow made for a fun combination. I’m thinking of making a sort of blog series when I put something like this together totally inspired by someone else's work. So look for more “vision accomplished” posts to come.
Avery has a special Daddy date night tomorrow night, so she really “needed” a new dress. Can’t wait to get those sweet photos tomorrow!

Four months

IMG_0804b

Has it really been four months already! I’ve accomplished a lot since our last visit. I’ve rolled over a few times from my tummy to my back; however, I REALLY dislike tummy time. I prefer to scream until someone rescues me rather than roll over. I now have a pretty sweet giggle too. The things that get me going are bath time, changing clothes, and sometimes big sis in hats. My very favorite activity is holding my hands together and trying to suck on them at the same time.

Under the Sea

In a few weeks we have a family trip scheduled to Atlanta to meet up with Mike, Brooke, and Palmer. On the agenda is a visit to the aquarium, so I thought it would be fun to make some aquatic outfits for the trip. I let Avery flip through a very beachy issue of a Kelly’s Kids catalog to pick out the sea creatures for each outfit. I reverse appliqued a whale for Tandy and a sea horse for Avery. For Avery’s top, I used the Farbenmix Amelie pattern. I followed this ruching technique for the wavy ruffle along the bottom. I also used my extra fold over elastic from headbands in place of the ribbing around the sleeve and neck openings.

Girlfriends

I had the best visit from one of my besties, Kelly, this weekend. We did some major eating, minor shopping, and serious chit-chatting. Aren’t good friends just the best?!?

Bathing Beauties

Todd was off playing basketball with the church group tonight, so I tried to simplify bath time for these two. I’m sure this will be the first of many shared baths. Both girls seemed plenty pleased with the situation.

Bring on the Ruffles

Joy of Snazziedrawers just released a new beauty of a pattern called the Hudson Dress, so I jumped at the chance to test it out. These knit ruffles give this comfy dress some glam as does the wide neckline. Joy’s patterns are well written and include great tips and sources. This one is a must for all those obsessed with ruffles like I am! I’m happy to report that Avery thought it was “just beautiful" too.
