Easter Dress 2010

I've had this dress completed for quite a while, but I put off posting it. I was trying to decide about adding some additional trims, but I think it will remain as is while my sewing stuff is packed away. I'm getting the itch to stitch though.

This will be Avery's Easter dress. I've used the Analise pattern yet again with a combination of Tanya Whelan's Darla, Sis Boom's Casey Scroll, and Patty Young's Andalucia fabrics. I broke the bottom skirt into strips with only a minor error in placement. I hate those frustrating mistakes.
I'm looking forward to Avery's first Easter egg hunt. Our church is hosting a service at Texas A&M International's Auditorium for Easter, and I am currently baking some cookies for the reception. Snickerdoodles with pink sugar. Yummy!

We Three and an RV

Okay, here's the Warrenton wrap up. First up, Avery just had to help with packing up my hat as we were walking out the door. Pretty cute though. We headed out Thursday afternoon and arrived at Kylie's family RV around 6 that evening. Kylie's family was so sweet to let us use their RV. Not only was it perfect for us, but they even delivered it to the site for our use. Great folks! I can't tell you how much fun it was to wake up ready to shop and just walk out the door. Here are Kylie and Liz with their little ones Delia and Ezra.
I jumped in for a shot with Liz and the babies.

If you have never been to Warrenton, here's an idea of what you will find.
We're talking miles of fantastic shopping!!
The weather could not have been better, and the little ones were troopers.
Here are a few ideas I loved.
And finally, this is one of my favorite purchases. I think Avery likes it too.

Two More Tutus

After sewing up these tutu dresses for a friend's charity organization, she requested two more for her nieces. I was happy to oblige. The first is almost identical to one I made for the charity with Heather Bailey's Pop Daisy fabric. For the second, I used Jennifer Paganelli's Dance with Me fabric. I wasn't sure I liked this fabric for clothing until I saw this cute outfit by Jenny at Sew Pretty Dresses. I knew it would be perfect for the simplicity of this pattern. What little girl wouldn't look adorable in all these ribbons, bows, and tulle?!? I've listed this second dress with the Dance with Me fabric in my etsy shop.

Busy Weekend

Wow. This weekend was a whirl wind. In the past four days our home has gone through an amazing transformation. Basically, we are transitioning our home to a house the next owner can envision their things in. My dad came down for a couple days to assist us, and he was a great help. The biggest change was our guest bathroom. Do you have one of those rooms you know you should repaint, but can't work up the energy to do it? The guest bathroom was that room for us. This picture was from our first Christmas in the house.I had wanted a bright color to contrast with our white milk glass vases we used for our wedding. This is the only color in the house Todd had most of the say on. He loved the name, par four green. It literally reflected off of the other fixtures in the bathroom, but in the four years we've owned the home, we never changed it. Well, this weekend it finally happened. Hopefully, the future owner will appreciate a relaxing neutral in lieu of the bright green.

Rock My World

It's spring break here in Laredo this week, and the city decided to hold a kite festival. They had absolutely beautiful weather for it, so a few of us decided to enjoy the day.
So, on to the big news of the day. We're moving. Not a small move, but a huge move. Today Todd accepted a transfer to Oxford, Mississippi. I must really love this man or I wouldn't be moving halfway across the country (away from my family) to start this new adventure with him. I'm terrified, but trust God to show us His plan. This is all supposed to happen in 90 days, so we will be living in chaos for a bit. If anyone is looking for a home in Laredo, we sure need a buyer!
I'll keep the shop up as long as I can, but most other sewing will probably screech to a halt. Boo!

Running with Scissors

We'll get to the running with scissors part in a bit.

While I was busy hosting a baby shower this past weekend, one was being hosted for my sweet sister-in-law, Brooke. They are expecting a baby boy at the end of April, and we couldn't be more excited! I sent along a package from Texas since I couldn't make the trip to Georgia. Included with a couple other baby things was this little set. The fabrics are Jennifer Paganelli's Claire Blocks and Lizzy House's Red Letter Day. The pattern is from Amy Butler's Little Stitches for Little Ones. I hope it keeps my future nephew cozy!On to the running with scissors.

So, I guess every parent things their kid is super smart, but Avery shocks me every day lately. I have to pass on this story just to have it recorded. You know how Avery likes hats, well she has a love of shoes too especially her rain boots. This morning we pulled out her box of shoes, and she wanted me to take on and off just about every shoe in the box. Then she can to a pair of flip flops I bought for her yesterday at Target. Since they still had tags on, I said we would need scissors to put these on. Not knowing what she was doing, I remained seated while Avery dashed around the corner. By the time I went to meet her, seconds really, she had opened the desk drawer, pulled out the scissors, and was running back to me with scissors in hand. Scared me to death first, but I was amazed second. I sure haven't taught her specifically what scissors are. Keep in mind she is only 21 months tomorrow. Yikes! I'm proud of her though.

Stay tuned I will probably have super big news to share later today. The turn my little world upside down kind. Of course, it will mean nothing to most of you, but it's big for us.

b is for baby shower

The ladies in our bible study hosted a fun shower for a Mommy-to-be today. I found the "b is for...." theme over at Hostess with the Mostess. This is such an awesome site for all things party related. Our friend, Mary Jo, with What's Inside Designs pulled together this amazing invitation. I asked Mary Jo for a few extra cards with the "b" for display purposes. She sent so many that I used them to make the favors too. Thanks Mary Jo!!

I covered a cork board with some vintage pink chenille then pinned each card to the board.
The button candy mold came from Bake It Pretty.
Of course, we pulled together some tasty treats for our little brunch.

With Bellinis, Bubbly (sparkling punch), and brew to sip on.
My cake was nearly a disaster. I managed to salvage it enough to serve, but you only get to view the top. I'm a bit embarrassed by the rest.
After deciding on the theme, I found this cute bee fabric at JoAnn's. Amy Butler's pattern from the Little Stitches for Little Ones book worked out perfect for this one.
We can't wait to meet the beautiful baby girl!!

Eating Out

The weather has been crazy. We couldn't believe we actually hit 90 degrees last week, but Friday was lovely. Avery and I celebrated with lunch in her favorite place, outside, with one of her favorite foods, sweet potato pancakes. A little fun was had by all.

NYC for the Sewist

Todd was kind enough to accompany me to 3 sewing type stores on our trip. Purl Soho was a bit out of our way and not quite what I expected, but the storefront was adorable.
M&J Trimming was by far my favorite. On the other side of this massive wall of ribbon is a massive wall of buttons. I purchased a nice little baggy with a few of my favorite buttons. It was super hard to choose and I tried to hurry so as not to test Todd's patience too much. He was a great help though.
Next up was Tinsel Trading Company. This was seriously a beautiful shop from the wonderful flowers to felt appliques to every shade of ribbon.
We could not stop thanking God for such a wonderful opportunity during our trip. What a blessing it was to be able to do something like this financially, somewhat spontaneously, and child free.

NYC for the Tourist

I promise not to bore you too much with our family vacation photos. I'm just going to hit the highlights. Serendipity3 was a highlight as always for me. This was a first for Todd. He got the specialty, Frrrrozen Hot Chocolate; while I got the Can't Say No Sundae. We were able to meet the last remaining founder of the restaurant. He was there just taking reservations and signing books.
Yes, that was a whole slice of peanut butter pie in there. So Yummy!! I loved this jelly belly toy soldier at FAO Schwarz.
The top of the Empire State Building was freezing to say the least, but it was a beautiful day.
