A Bit of History
Here I am in the high chair Avery is using in the previous post. I think I'm 1 year old in this one.

On the Road Again
We had another fun road trip up to San Antonio this past weekend. Avery and I hung out with Omie and Opa while Todd headed up to Bastrop for another adventure race. Here is Avery testing out the vintage high chair that was used for me as a baby.
Avery and Opa had some good bonding time.
Especially when Avery was trying to eat Opa's nose.
We spent a fun day with Kelly, Doug, and Luke on Sunday, but once again I forgot to pull the camera out. We made it back to Laredo safe and sound. Todd was tired, but he recovered quickly from his race. Avery has become a good traveler lately.
You can find the instructions to make a top like Avery's here. This one was made from one of my old skirts. It's great to practice sewing on free fabric!

A Little This, A Little That
First things first, Avery now has two teeth. I guess once they start, they don't slow down. She also is sitting up for short periods of time on her own. I'll have to post some pictures next time since she is currently trying to go to sleep, or trying to get us to let her stay up, depending on how you look at it.
I was thinking tonight that I always share recipes for dessert, so I needed to mix things up. I cooked one of my two favorite meals tonight for dinner. More on number two later. I love this recipe for several reasons. First, it starts with a rotisserie chicken. Don't you just love it when someone else does the hard part? Second, it only uses half of the chicken, so you have left overs to make chicken salad or whatever. You can also freeze the leftover chicken to make this recipe again later. Third, it is an unusual combination of delicious flavors. So here goes.
Honey-Jalapeno Chicken with Sesame Noodles
6-8 oz spaghetti noodles
1 jalapeno, seeds removed
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 Tbsp water
2 tsp olive oil
1/2 rotisserie chicken, shredded
1 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp sesame oil
1 chopped scallion, green part only
Cook noodles, drain, and set aside.
In a blender or food processor, combine jalapeno, honey, cilantro, salt, and pepper and puree until smooth. Add water to the mixture. Pour the 2 tsp olive oil into a preheated skillet. Add the shredded chicken and the blended sauce. Cook until heated through.
Combine cooked noodles, soy sauce, sesame oil, and scallions. Toss and transfer to a serving bowl. Pour heated chicken and sauce over noodles. Enjoy!
My second favorite recipe is shrimp and grits. If anyone is interested in that one, leave me a comment, and I will send it your way.

6 month update, a little late
Better late than never. At Avery's 6 month appointment she weighed in at 19 pounds 12 ounces, and she is 27.25 inches long. This puts her at 90% in height and 95% in weight. She's a healthy kid who doesn't skip any meals. Avery is not quite sitting up on her own yet, but we expect her to any day now. She pushes up on her knees while on her tummy every once and a while, so crawling is probably not too far behind. That is one stage that I am not rushing. I think we may have a bottom tooth break through the surface pretty soon too. The cute outfits below were given to her by my friends Shelly and Rachel. Little girls are so much fun!

New Year, New Look
Avery has been playing with her new Christmas toys. They are almost as cute as she is.
I've enjoyed cooking for New Years almost as much as for Christmas. If you like cherries or white chocolate, you've got to try this new recipe. I found it on Sandi Henderson's blog. Yummy! I think they turned very pretty too.
