Snuggle Bunny

What I really want to do right now is snuggle up with this little cutie and some hot chocolate with marshmallows, but instead we have to head out on our drive to Mississippi shortly. Don't get me wrong, I want to go to Mississippi. I just don't want to be in the car for so long. I hope you are looking forward to the next post with pictures from the South. Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll!!

5 months old

Time sure does fly when we are having fun. Avery turned 5 months old yesterday. She gets even more fun every day.

Last weekend we were up at the ranch again. Avery met her Uncle Lane for the first time and got to hang out with the "social" heifers. These cows really like to hang out where the people are. You can usually find them up near the house. Omie was hoping to make friends quickly near her new home, and it seems she has made a good start.

Todd completed his first 1/2 marathon in under 2 hours, with 16 seconds to spare. Casey and I had fun cheering on our hubbies from the sidelines.

Sweet Potato Queen

Avery enjoyed her first few bites of solid food today. Apparently sweet potatoes were a big hit. I think Todd and I enjoyed the experience even more than Avery. If you haven't seen enough yet, I've included the video. Enjoy!

On a roll!

video video

We've had a big week! Tuesday night the Davis family drove up to the ranch near New Braunfels. Todd left Avery and I there and headed on to Georgia for his adventure race. Avery and I had a good time visiting with friends and family. On Saturday, Avery accomplished another "first." She rolled over from her back to her tummy. I only caught the last bit of it on video, but take a look. The first video is her tummy to back roll when she was 2 months old. Today she rolled over right off of her blanket.

We finally returned to Laredo this morning, so this has been our longest time away from home. Todd survived his grueling adventure race in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia. His biggest complaints were the freezing temperatures and pouring rain. His team placed 60th out of 81. Next week he plans to complete his first half marathon. We'll be cheering him from the sidelines.

Avery's doctor has recommended that we start her on solid foods, so we'll be letting you know how that goes pretty soon.

Sew fun!

Well, here is what I've been up to during Avery's naps. I'm learning to sew a little at a time. The pincushion and head band were free tutorials from Heather Bailey. I am a big fan of her patterns and fabrics. Next, I worked on the purse which is perfect for the quick transition from baby bag to purse. Yes, sometimes I get to do things sans baby! All of this was practice so I could make cute dresses for my cupcake. This one has vintage buttons from my last shopping trip to Warrenton. Since I had to miss the trip in September, I am really looking forward to March. Now I'll be searching for vintage fabrics, buttons, and trims. Oh my!

Pretty as a Peacock

We had a happy Halloween with two occasions to dress up. Halloween night Avery dressed as a cowgirl to great our trick or treaters. Dad took her next door for her first trick or treating experience. The next night we went to a costume party. I bet Aunt Casey wishes Avery had been around for her wedding! As you can see, Todd ended up as a Mexican cowboy and I was Martha Stewart. The night was fun, but ended too quickly for me and too late for Avery.

Polls, Voting, and Victory

Since mid September little Miss Avery's night time sleeping pattern had deteriorated. So we decided to start investigating the possible causes. We took polls of the parents with children her age, and most of the good sleepers were not given pacifiers at night. Next came the vote. The Davis family was divided 2 to 1 on whether or not to take away the pacifier at night. Majority won. The first two nights were torture for all involved, but that was followed by several nights of victory. Avery is now sleeping about 6-7 hours uninterrupted, and putting herself back to sleep after that for a few more hours. We are up at 5 am some days for a quick feeding, but that is much easier after some good sleep. Parents and baby are much happier in the mornings these days!
What? Did you think I was referring to another election?
